The Yellow River,of which the source is in the Yueguzonglie(Maqu) basin on the northern part of the Bayankela Mountain in Tibet highlands at el. 4,500m.
There is a lot of records about the Yellow River’s source in Chinese history.Over the past 2000 years, especially after Tang Dynasty, mang people had set foot in the source area and conducted lots of exploration about there. As limited by the condition, none of them could reach the source thoroughly, thus there was no accurate record about this area throughtout.
In August 1952,the Yellow River Conservancy Commission(YRCC) and the department concerned formed a Yellow River Source Survey Group with more than 60 surveyors, the survey lasted for over 4 months ,the route was 5000km,and after the survey, the Yueguzonglie(Maqu) was confirmed as the right source of the Yellow River. In 1970s,some people considered the Kariqu as the right source, but the academic circles haven’t gotten the final conclusion.
The Yueguzonglie is a basin with an elevation of more than 4500 meters,a length from East to West more than 20 km and a width from North to South about 12 km. At the Southwest’s hillside ,many springs gush out from underground ,and then become 3 streams of spring water flowing into the basin and forming a river with the length about 6 to 9 meters. The river meanders to the Northeast edge, and through the Xingxiu Hai,reappears regular flow, and then enters into Zhaling Lake and Eling Lake. The source area of the Yellow river is a place with plenty of water and grass, further more the scenery of there is very beautiful.
