Abstract:The autologous construction of measure and autocontrol system of “Physical Model Yellow River” and the linkage between “the three Yellow River” bring up the request of the digitization of “Physic Model Yellow River” with the engineering’s continuously construction and engineering system’s consummation of “Physic Model Yellow River”. The visual management platform construction of “Physic Model Yellow River”based on GIS is the basic plat of the digitization engineering of “Physic Model Yellow River”, and is one of the key technique which can achieve digital “Physic Model Yellow River”. This platform can realize the unified management about correlative information of model experiment by investigating and exploiting the synthesis database and the corresponding software module of Yellow River entity model which take the GlS as core; can provide information for some department; can provide an advanced plat for the analysis and disposal of experiment information; can provide the technique sustaining for the application, management, and decision-making of “Physical Model Yellow River”, provide the high-quality and shortcut service for research and experiment.

“Physical Model Yellow River” is a model system which is made up of entity models, used to research the evolvement orderliness of Yellow River basin, father key technique question and all fathering schemes in exploitation[1]. Information of physical model experiments has characteristics of real-time, dense and great. The experiments process controlling, data analyzing and processing, the corresponding management of archives and information depend on more and more deeply on information. Information technique, computer technique and artificial intelligence technique must be used to modernize physical model experiments.
The digitalizing of “Physical Model Yellow River” [2] is a new position and new request of “Physical Model Yellow River”. The digitalization of “Physical Model Yellow River” must be realized if we want construct the modern “Physical Model Yellow River”, that is measure and control means transform from manual and original to automatic and modern, experiment managements transform from alone to unified and order; after-exploitation transforms from indifference to recognition. To realize the transform above, digitalization must be applied to provide important technique sustain.
The visual management platform construction of “Physic Model Yellow River” based on GIS is the basic plat of the digitization engineering of “Physic Model Yellow River”, is one of the key technique which can achieve digitalization of “Physic Model Yellow River”. 1 the necessity of construction
(1) The need to realize the request of resources sharing and combined operating and interworking among the three Yellow River
After the construction of the platform, the information which the experiments needed can be acquired expediently and rapidly from the “Natural Yellow River” by the files of normal format; the platform can provides “Digital Yellow River” with physics parameters and middle tests, promotes the scientific research of “Physical Model Yellow River” and the construction of “Digital Yellow River”, supplies scientific basis for the construction of the “Natural Yellow River”. So realizing the sharing of resource, combined operations and interworking among the three “Yellow River”. It will accelerate the development of science, bring immense social benefit and economy benefits.
(2) The need to construct digital engineering of “Physical Model Yellow River”
The digital “Physical Model Yellow River” can collect experiment data automatically, transmit the experiment data through network, manage the experiment data integrated, manage the experiment process intelligently, provide digital work environment, which constructed with the technologies of computer, network, indoor GPS, GIS and VR.
The digital engineering of “Physical Model Yellow River” is a digital collected platform and a virtual environment, which built up with the concept above. The platform and environment manage the physical model experiments through software with great function, control the experiment process, collect experiment data and manage all in visual environment automatically. So realizing the sharing of resource, combined operations and interworking among the three “Yellow River”(the Natural Yellow River, the Physical Model Yellow River and the Digital Yellow River).
The platform includes the basic GIS, data manage system and real-time monitor system of physical model experiment (Fig.1 [2]) of the digitalization engineering of “Physical Model Yellow River”. The constructing of it is the basis of other application systems
(3) The need to analyze the data of physical model experiments
The experiment information and experiment data can be obtained in OA system of the platform conveniently and rapidly, which have been collected in database of the platform, and the experiment data analysis system can been built according to every type physical model experiment. The platform is the basis and assurance for the experiment data analyzing.
(4) The need to construct the virtual emulation center for “Physical Model Yellow River”
The compositive property database, real-time measured database and digital model management system are composed in the platform, so the real-time relative information can be displayed dynamically. It is the basis of virtual emulation center for “Physical Model Yellow River”
2 construction targets
A suit of advanced and visual management software and hardware system which has freedom knowledge property right and is the same with the physical model experiments of “Physical Model Yellow River” will be built up by applying technique such as GIS, database, autocontrol, network communication and so on and exploring the compositive database and the corresponding software module. The system can realize the centralized management about the parameter of water and sand such as model’s topographty, the control parameters about water and sand, the measured parameters about water and sand, the information about figure and image and the long-distance monitoring; provide the corresponding information for some departments; provide an advanced plat for the analysis and disposal of information of model; provide a high quality and shortcut service for science experiments; provide a technique sustaining for the application ,management, and decision-making of “Physical Model Yellow River”.
3 construction principles
The visual management platform of “Physical Model Yellow River” based on GIS has characteristics such as large construction scale, large technique difficulty, wide involving scale, long construction cycle and so on, so the following rules must be obeyed to assure achieve the expectant aim.
(1) basing upon the engineering system of “Physical Model Yellow River” and planning as a whole
The visual management platform of “Physical Model Yellow River” based on GIS is an organic composing part of engineering system of “Physical Model Yellow River”, is a technique sustaining for “Physical Model Yellow River” project, is the technique base for united effecting each other among “Physical Model Yellow River”, “Natural Yellow River” and “Digital Yellow River”. So the engineering system of “Physical Model Yellow River” should be the basis of the platform.
(2) advanced, practicable, opening, extensible
The visual management platform of “Physical Model Yellow River” based on GIS should apply currently up to date techniques, which assure that the system can’t be adjusted on a large scale because of the laggard technique after it has been built up. The platform can preserve the system’s advanced character by upgrade, can bear the existing manifold measuring and controlling function and network protocols by applying steady and mature techniques; the platform should consider fully the manipulation characteristics of manifold application systems, the expansion of software system’s function, and the superinduce of hardware in the future; the platform should be equipped with plenty of exploitation joints and various exploitation tools to bear the existing exploitation means and production and to assure It’s strong exploitation characteristic, the platform should be used easily and satisfy for various needs; the platform should ensure the standardization of production.
4 technique routines
(1) the selection of GIS platform
The selected GIS platform should satisfy the following needs such as mature, credible, opening, excellent capability and so on. Arc/Info is a mature, credible, opening platform, it provides exoteric data joints, applying exploitation joints, it is compatible to all kinds of databases, with which many languages such as C/C++、Basic、Delphi etc can be used to exploit; at the same time, Arc/Info can be upgraded upward and expanded downward easily; in addition, the “Digital Yellow River” has adopted Arc/Info as the basic exploitation plat, so Arc/Info of ESRI company will be adopted as the exploitation plat for the platform considering the resources sharing and the maneuverability of data exchange among the three Yellow River.
(2) the combination of Client/Server construction and the Internet/Intranet technique
The visual management platform of “Physical Model Yellow River” based on GIS is a system combined MIS and GIS technique, the mature Client/Server structure and B/S structure will be applied in exploitation process, and the system structure of three-layer model will be adopted to exploit.
(3) integrative management with image and letters by applying GIS
To realize integrative management with images and letters in platform, large-scale commerce database is applied to manage spacial data and non-spacial data, and the subassembly GIS technique is also used. GIS can be integrated closely with MIS and the application of YRCC’s operations to realize true integration of images and letters based on the corresponding operation by subassembly GIS technique.
(4) remote monitor and visual management system
The subsystem of “Physical Model Yellow River” monitors and control every experiment data collecting point visually, visualize and real-time by electronic map and configuration mode to realize automatization for measure and control.
5 construction contents
(1) support platform construction
① The visual management platform of “Physical Model Yellow River” based on GIS is exoteric, extensible. The support environment composes of operating system, DBMS, network communication system, etc.
The operating system to be used should adapt to mainstream hardware, satisfy the different needs of all users; DBMS is the basis of storing data, transferring data, analyzing data. The real-time database built in memory should be developed to meet the needs of opening and real time, so commercial database and real-time database should joint together. The commercial database is used for data modeling, storing historical data, supplying data interface for external commands. The real-time database based on commercial database supplies a basis for storing and transferring real-time data by sharing memory; network communication system is the basis of distributed runnable environment, it must supply the same service for other host computer.
② All the subsystems of the visual management platform of “Physical Model Yellow River” must adopt the same criterions and rules, to satisfy all the subsystems’ harmony and linkage.
(2) basic GIS platform
Basic GIS platform of “Physical Model Yellow River” is the basis of other application systems in digitalization engineering of “Physical Model Yellow River”. It has precise, full and accurate dynamic electro-map, which based on coordinates of reference points and vectored grid-map. It realizes the compile and data inquiring of physical model’s special objects such as entrances and exits, data collecting points, reference factors and so on, it is the basis of special map analysis, decision-making subsystems
(3) data collecting and disposal subsystem
Physical model experiment data are comprehensive and real-time, distributed information collecting system can collect the real-time data such as water level, flux, velocity of flow, sandiness content and terrain of every data collecting point through local network of communication
(4) remote monitor and visual management subsystem
The subsystem displays the location of every controlling points of the physical model based on electro-map. The real-time information of a controlling point such as water level, flux, velocity of flow, sandiness content, etc. will be displayed in screen when mouse point to it. There will be alarm displayed if there is abnormality. The particular menu of a controlling point will be displayed after it has been clicked, and the real-time picture of the point is displayed also, and people can control the point in computer.
Digital 3-D terrain creating subsystem, statistic and analysis subsystem, data disposing subsystem and information issuing subsystem will be built step by step in the future after the full platform has been accomplished.
6 Conclusions
The visual management platform of “Physical Model Yellow River” based on GIS is an important composing part of digitalization engineering of “Physical Model Yellow River”, is important composing part of “Physical Model Yellow River” project, is a large-scale system engineering, is necessary with the applying of rapidly developed new techniques for physical model experiment, and is the only way for experiment work of fathering Yellow River going to digitalization. This platform’s construction will change our work. To construct the “Physical Model Yellow River”, the visual management platform of “Physical Model Yellow River” based on GIS must be constructed first, which can realize modernization of “Physical Model Yellow River”, can turn on the new canto about technique of fathering Yellow River and provide scientific sustain for “maintaining the healthy life of Yellow River”.
